STEP4. PROMOTING

Promotional ideas continued
Many local radio stations have slots in their weekend schedule for mentioning local events and activities, so on the day of your event give them a ring and tell them about your event, key activities, attractions and who or what you are raising money for. Some radio stations may even send out a live crew to the event. Worth a phone call especially if you get free air time.

Saturday is shopping day and with lots of people out and about in the shopping centres or high street this makes for a great low cost opportunity to tell people about your event. Ideas could include dressing as a  clown or comical character handing out flyers, event programs, promotional free tickets or even handing out free balloons printed with your event details on to passing children. A word of caution at this point should be noted, some shopping centres are privately owned and you may need to ask permission first, also some local councils may have restrictions in place with regard to promoting in the high street, so check first to avoid any embarrassing moments.

Vehicles or local taxi advertising is another possibility, talk to local firms who may put up small adverts in cabs or hand out flyers to passengers especially if you're raising money for a good cause or charity. Ask, people or businesses can either say yes or no, its worth a try.

The simple, least expensive methods of advertising often work the best, the idea is to get people to turn up to your event, so make it sound exciting, fun and put over that it's going to be a great day out for all.
